Once an underdog, popular today: The Porsche 928 is now available with KW V3 Classic coilovers

Despite its production run from 1977 to 1995, the classic Oldtimer failed to capture the attention it deserved at that time. Originally, Porsche intended that the 928 becomes a successor of the iconic Porsche 911. But die-hard fans remained loyal to the 911 and were defined as a more upscale target audience. Despite all the hurdles, the model still managed to find about 63,000 buyers.

The Porsche 928 was launched in a total of three model series. Since the production start in 1977, there were two facelifts that visually and technologically updated the car. The 928 Porsche was available in several variants (e.g. GT, GTS, S, S4) with different motorizations, performance capabilities, and equipment features.

With our KW V3 Classic coilovers, we revived the old model and brought back the comfortable, well-motorized sportscar. With a KW V3 Classic inside, the driving experience becomes more modern without sacrificing the car’s unique character. The V3 Classic is a specially designed coilover kit for the Porsche 928. By fine-tuning the coilovers, you get a driving sensation that perseveres the distinctive traits of the Porsche vintage car while still delivering a modern driving experience.

The technology behind coilovers has undergone significant advancements in recent years. And what could be more satisfying than driving a classic car with vintage charm, yet still enjoying the perks of modern driving?

Our V3 Classic features separate adjustments for compression (TVC-A) and rebound (TVR-A) to provide precise tuning for various driving conditions. When encountering intense damper stimulations, such as street irregularities, the maximum cross-section of the low-speed and high-speed valves open, resulting in a more comfortable driving experience. This is especially noticeable in water-cooled Porsche models like the 928 with a 5.4-liter V8 engine that produces 350 hp (275 kW). With the V3 Classic, the typical one-sided buckling during acceleration in a curve can be effectively controlled, enhancing the car's stability and handling.

The Vintage Coupé has the revolutionary "Weissach axle" – a concept that Porsche describes as a groundbreaking innovation redefining chassis technology. This axle, also known as the transaxle principle, positions the engine at the front of the car and places the transmission and differential at the rear. This configuration greatly improves the vehicle's stability and effectively eliminates the problem of sudden oversteering during cornering. Even today, Porsche sports cars still rely on the Weissach axle principle, which is a testament to its enduring effectiveness. When paired with our KW V3 coilover suspension, this axle kinematics concept elevates the Porsche 928 to a whole new level, endowing it with unparalleled responsiveness, control, and safety – qualities that remain impressive even by modern standards.
