W201 Coilovers: Precision Suspension by KW for your Mercedes-Benz 190 & 190E

For the vintage Mercedes-Benz 190 & 190E (W201) - also affectionately called "Baby Benz" - KW suspensions offers the KW V3 coilover suspension. The V3 is available in two versions: the standard version with a stainless steel strut and add-on parts in yellow/purple, and the simple KW V3 Classic Line version with a stainless steel strut and black add-on parts. Both the KW V3 and the V3 Classic offer modern ride quality and driving dynamics. With the KW V3 Classic, the vehicle remains H-approved thanks to a certificate. Unlike other suspension solutions, our KW coilover kits do not require conversion to MacPherson struts at the front axle.

Did you know? With the KW V3 for the Mercedes 190, you benefit from our long-standing partnership with Mercedes-AMG. The damping technology used in this kit is conceptually based on the same twin-valve technology we developed for the limited AMG Black Series models. This brings supercar-level precision to your classic W201.

Discover the difference that Mercedes 190 coilovers can make

The factory suspension

The standard Mercedes 190 W201 is a well-balanced car with a clear focus on comfort. The steering is precise but not very direct. The Mercedes 190 and 190E suspension absorbs bumps in the road with ease. However, it can lack firmness, direct feedback, and modern driving dynamics, which are essential for brisk drives on country roads or sporty excursions. Additionally, the standard suspension is no longer state-of-the-art in terms of design. This can be particularly noticeable at higher speeds or with rapid load changes.

Our KW product

More precision, stability, and driving pleasure: With continuously further developed damper technology, our W201 coilovers give the car a significantly sportier driving characteristic. While the stainless-steel KW V3 coilover suspension scores with a modern look, the KW V3 Classic integrates itself discreetly into the overall appearance of the classic car. Both coilover kits bring the driving dynamics of the Mercedes-Benz 190 up to today's level. The KW V3 lowers the base models by 40 to 65 mm at the front axle and 35 to 60 mm at the rear axle. The 190E 2.3-16 and 190E 2.5-16 models are lowered by 10 to 35 mm at the front axle and 25 to 50 mm at the rear axle with the V3.

HWA Evo (R): The W201 restomod with KW technology

The HWA Evo and HWA Evo R are the first vehicles independently developed by the Affalterbach-based automaker HWA. These restomods are built on the well-preserved bodies of the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II. While we developed a KW V5 and KW DDC ECU (both optionally with HLS) for the HWA Evo, the Evo R is equipped with KW V7 Racing dampers featuring dual blow-off valves for compression and rebound, as well as twin-tube solid-piston technology. The racing version, the Evo R, is entered in the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) as well as the legendary 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. The HWA Evo R pays homage to the Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II, which competed during the “golden era” of the DTM.

FAQ ABOUT W201 COILOVERS BY KW

What is the best coilover suspension for the Mercedes 190 (W201)?

The Mercedes 190 coilover from KW offers separate rebound and compression adjustment for maximum flexibility. Whether you prefer a sporty, firm setup or modern comfort suitable for long distances, with the KW V3 and the KW V3 Classic Line, you can customize the coilover kits to suit your needs.

Does lowering a Mercedes W201 affect historic registration?

Lowering a Mercedes W201 with coilovers is possible while keeping historic registration if the suspension has the right certification and is period-correct. The KW V3 Classic Line is specifically developed for vehicles like the W201 and meets these requirements.

How is the KW V3 Classic different from the V3 for the Mercedes 190?

The KW V3 Classic was developed especially for classic cars like the Mercedes 190 W210. It offers modern KW damper technology combined with a contemporary look that fits classic cars. The conventional KW V3 is visually more modern. Technically, there is no difference between the two products.

Do W201 coilovers affect cornering stability?

W201 coilovers, such as the KW V3 and V3 Classic, significantly reduce body lean when cornering. This ensures a more precise steering response. The individually adjustable lowering and damping of both products give the W201 more grip and stability - both on the country road and on the racetrack.
