BMW M3 Competition Touring with KW technology: A driving experience as comfortable or sporty as you want it to be
We have been eagerly awaiting this sporty mid-size estate for a long time. And since the BMW M3 Competition Touring (G81) has been on the market, it has not disappointed. Even before its market launch, the vehicle was crowned the fastest production estate car on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (lap time: 7:35.060 minutes). Its driving dynamics are first-class. Nevertheless, despite the adaptive M suspension, the damping cannot be customised to any great extent and comfort on short journeys is only marginal. What if we told you that ride comfort and sporty performance are not mutually exclusive? Find out more here.
The factory suspension
The BMW M3 Competition Touring has received widespread praise for its impressive driving dynamics and superior suspension. The car has an adaptive M suspension that adjusts the damping according to the driving conditions. However, it is not possible to adjust the suspension settings more specifically. Consequently, the standard suspension can lack flexibility. The BMW M3 Touring's ground clearance is not flexibly adjustable.
Our KW product
When paired with the BMW M3 Competition Touring's rear-axle active M differential, our KW V4 coilover suspension provides maximum stability and optimal road grip. The precise handling gives you full control in every driving situation. Thanks to KW suspensions, your BMW M3 Competition remains controllable at all times, even at high speeds and in challenging road conditions. The BMW M3 ground clearance is reduced by up to 35 millimeters with the KW V4 coilover suspension.

Customized lowering
This coilover suspension offers maximum possible lowering, customized to your vehicle model. You can also change this at any time after installation.
Adjustable compression damping (low speed)
You can fine-tune the low-speed compression damping even after installation. The vehicle's handling and stability will benefit from 12 clicks.
Adjustable compression damping (Highspeed)
You can fine-tune the high-speed compression damping even after installation. Up to 15 clicks allow you to adjust vehicle handling and stability.
Adjustable rebound (low speed)
You'll notice the difference with every click! Here, you can adjust the low-speed rebound with 16 clicks. This adjusts the ride characteristics, making them either harder or more comfortable.
Adjustable rebound (high speed)
You'll feel the difference with every click! Here you can adjust the rebound (high speed) with a total of 13 clicks. This makes the riding characteristics either harder or more comfortable.
Additional technologies
Can I use my M3 Competition KW coilovers on the racetrack?
Yes. For these occasions, we recommend equipping your M3 Competition Touring with a KW V5 Clubsport to ensure the best possible experience. However, although our KW V3 and V4 coilover kits are inspired by racing, we recommend using them on the road only.
What is the ground clearance of the BMW M3 Touring with a KW coilover kit?
Our coilover suspensions (KW V3, KW V4 and KW V5 Clubsport) allow the M3 Competition to be lowered by up to 35 millimeters. This makes the M3 look sportier and gives it a lower center of gravity, which is perfect for improving driving dynamics. Our KW height-adjustable springs provide a lowering of 15–30 mm at the front and 10–25 mm at the rear.
What is the difference between the KW V3 and KW V4 coilover kit?
We often get asked about the difference between the KW V3 vs KW V4. First, here's what they have in common: individual stepless lowering adjustment, low-speed rebound adjustment, low-speed compression adjustment and come with a parts certificate. The difference is that the KW V4 also has high-speed compression adjustment, and adjustable aluminium uniball top mounts are sometimes included in the delivery, depending on the car.
What factors should I consider when converting from an adaptive suspension to a KW suspension?
For vehicles with adaptive damping such as the BMW M3 Competition Touring we recommend using our KW cancellation kit when retrofitting a KW coilover kit. With this accessory, we prevent your vehicle from displaying error messages when installing a KW coilover suspension. Our cancellation kit only deactivates the standard damper control; the function of the control unit remains fully intact. The cancellation kits are already included in the scope of delivery.
